A good coffee maker? Not costing the earth?

My coffee maker has given up. I want to replace it with something that makes filter and espresso and froths. I’ve looked at reviews, but everything that’s well reviewed is over £200, I want something that performs better than OK, but at the sub £75 mark, not impossible surely? and not something that uses proprietary pods or capsules. just good Italian coffee grounds.
Any suggestions out there?
Ok… my last coffee maker cost under 100. made excellent filter and acceptable espresso. Granted the milk steamer wasn’t great.
The espresso was way better than what normally arrives in restaurants, certainly better than anything I’ve had from a mocha pot, and I tried plenty over the years.
I’ve travelled extensively in Italy, France and Spain, all renowned for their love of coffee, and I’ve been to South America, the motherland, so to speak.
Nothing I tasted would have broken the back of the filter my apparently unacceptable machine turned out, the espresso wouldn’t have looked to out of place, though I admit it wouldn’t have drawn compliment.
I use Illey or Lavazza, I’ve tried premium coffee’s, but I always get the taste I associate with Italian cafe Coffee from these brands, so I always return. Even I have to admit that yes; coffee freshly ground tastes better. But it’s not going to happen, Life’s short. Bearing this in mind, any realistic, snob free advice?
Oh yeah, I’ll give up coffee altogether and stick to tea rather than drink french press. I loath the coffee from these.

My 14th birthday?? HELP! Party planning.?

Please tell me what you think of this work in progress party. What do you like/dislike about it?
Ok, so my birthday is right before christmas, but Im way too busy then, so i was thinking about having it on new years eve.

We live in one house, but then we have another HUGE house nextdoor which we rent to people on vacation. I wanna have my party over there so my parents will be out of the way.

I want this party to be sophisticated but super fun.

5 of my mates, for a sleep over. OMG I ALMOST FORGOT and lots of chocolate fondue. You know, chocolate fountain and strawberries…

Which cake do you like?

Ya I don’t want it to get too tea-party-ish, so i was thinking of BBQing for dinner, espresso’s in the morning (my dad lives for his italian coffee maker) and maybe crepes.

I want a movie. Not a horror movie, not action, but something fun. Ideas???
For snacks; random things to have out to eat and stuff:
root beer
juice squeeze
cherries
other random fruit
sparkling water
Popcorn

WHAT WILL WE DO THOUGH??!! It’s new years eve, so setting off fireworks would be fun but I think my mom threw mine away…. And we gotta stay up all night.
I know this a super long question, so just one more thing. The invites. I wanna send them out 3 weeks before the party, and I want them addressed like this: "To Miss Emma", etc.

Well please I need feedback, you HONEST opinion.

Thanks sooooooooooooooo much, Lily :)
What do you think about lavender creme brulee for the party?? It’s my specialty.

Italian Coffee Maker- regular coffee vs. espresso//Cholesterol?

I just bought an "Italian Coffee Maker" thinking its a coffee brewer that you use on the stove. I like a cup of coffeee every now and then, but my dad pointed out to me and I read on line that its really to make espresso.
I’m pretty health conscious so I wanted to kno if I use a filter to make regular coffee with it(which ive done before with another little maker like this) will is reduce the cholesterol–ness? lol >_<

Dont make fun, but I heard on MSNBC once that you should use a filter even with capuucino machines because without it you can raise your cholesterol..(significant difference)
So is this different from he cappuccino thing I heard? Can I make regular coffee and not have to worry about that?
Or.. you I just return it and get a regular little coffee machine?
